In a spectacular return to the Bundesliga, English winger Jadon Sancho made a resounding impact for Borussia Dortmund against SV Darmstadt 96. Sancho, who recently ended a challenging stint with Manchester United, showcased his talent in a 3-0 victory on Saturday.
Sancho, 23, entered the game in the 55th minute and wasted no time in making a mark. Just 20 minutes later, he provided a brilliant assist to Marco Reus, contributing to Dortmund's 2-0 lead. The atmosphere was electric as Sancho expressed his joy, stating,
"Feels great just to be happy again, to be on the pitch and to help the team. Ever since I've come back I have felt at home, and I'm just happy to be back on the pitch again."
The expectations were notably high for Sancho, given his tumultuous two years at Manchester United, marked by suspensions and disagreements with the manager. "I've got personal goals which I'm not going to say for now.
I just want to help the team, and I'm very positive about the second half of the season. We kept a clean sheet, which was really important, and we just take it game by game.
The team has objectives, and I'm sure we'll do well if we fight every game,"
said Sancho, emphasizing his commitment to Dortmund.
Sancho's frustrations at Manchester United led to his desire for a move, and Dortmund secured the talented winger on a six-month loan deal.
Reflecting on his return to Dortmund, Sancho expressed, "It was meant to be, coming back and seeing Marco again. He's a great friend of mine, and I'm happy to set up his goal."
Having initially joined Dortmund at the age of 17 in 2017, Sancho enjoyed a successful four-year spell, including a German Cup win in 2021.
His subsequent move to Manchester United for 73 million euros failed to live up to expectations, with only nine goals in 58 appearances.
The strained relationship with United's manager further hindered his progress, and Sancho had not featured for the club since August 2023.
Fortunately, the return to Dortmund has provided Sancho with a fresh start and the opportunity he eagerly sought.
As he looks forward to the remainder of the season, his impressive performance against SV Darmstadt 96 signals the beginning of a promising chapter two with Borussia Dortmund.
Did Manchester United play safe?
Jadon Sancho seems happy again, that has been a nightmare stint at the old Trafford. Ten Hag didn't seem to trust the player.
He had been in and out the team for the majority of the season. The transfer seems a legit solution for both the teams.
But in contrast many other players have come in support for Sancho as he had completed his transfer from Old Trafford.
The number of players showing support for Sancho might be overwhelming this shows there might be much more deeper problems in dressing room as well as with the management.
