PSG's chances of winning the Champions League look slim even in future.

PSG

It is safe to say that PSG's investment has failed to land the most prestigious cup, the Champions League, in its museum. PSG was defeated by mighty Bayern Munich with a scoreline of 3-0. With attacking powers like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar Jr. (who was injured in the Bayern clash), PSG hoped to bag the Champions League at least once.

After coming agonizingly close to winning the major trophy only to be defeated by mighty Bayern, it might have been a hard pill to swallow for Paris fans. PSG took revenge for that thrashing with a win against Bayern in the following 2020-21 Quarter-Finals of the Champions League.

Many analysts and pundits pointed out that the tactics PSG played during their first-leg game were where the game was lost. With PSG having an attacking trio of superstars against Bayern in the first leg, PSG coach Christopher Gaultier decided to play defensively in their own stadium.

The only positive light to take from that first-leg defeat to Bayern Munich was the availability of Kylian Mbappe, who looked like the only player with the hunger to score.

During the second leg, the only player who looked likely to score was not an attacker but a defender, Sergio Ramos. The former Real Madrid captain was the only individual who looked likely to score. Ramos had a horrible start to his PSG career as the defender was out for the majority of the 2022 season due to injuries.

The big problem this superstar attacking trio faces is that they barely defend, with many opposition managers also pointing out that the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, or Lionel Messi don't fall back to defend. This again causes a headache for the coach for their defensive strategy.

What we saw against Bayern Munich can easily be stated as a bunch of individuals playing against a team. With Lionel Messi's aspirations of completing football after winning the World Cup 2022, Lionel Messi might have just called it a day on other footballing achievements.

With Luis Campos as Football Advisor for PSG, the club might be looking to part ways with its superstar duo of Neymar and Messi.

Can PSG win the Champions League anytime soon?

It might be a question that really has many different possible outcomes. Given the direction the club was headed by recruiting superstar talent under Leonardo, Luis Campos wants to build a team based on young energy, eliminating the superstar nature of the club. The first main target PSG might look to sell is Neymar.
