These are the times Tottenham won major trophies

We all know one thing about Tottenham: “trophyless.” The chants that are used to describe the club will now be meaningless because they have gone and won the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Their trophy cabinet at last comprises silverware, and the years of dust will finally get polished in the cabinet.

But to your surprise, this is not the first time that Tottenham has won a major trophy.

Surprise!

They have done it quite a few times in the past, but it’s that Genz would not know it, because in their timeline, Tottenham are trophyless.

So here is a memory boost for people to know exactly when Tottenham has won some trophies

  • 1960-61 - The famous double

You won’t believe it, but Tottenham was the first club to win the English First Division(Premier League) and the FA Cup in the same season

These are the times Tottenham won major trophies

Bill Nicolson was the manager who achieved this, they were solid in the attacking front as well as the defence. They beat Leicester City in the final 2-0 at Wembley.

In the first division, they only lost to Burley, Leicester, Newcastle, and Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Blanchflower (captain), Dave Mackay, Cliff Jones, and Bobby Smith.were the key players for Tottenham. This helped Tottenham gain some elite status in English football and to this day remains an iconic season for Tottenham.

  • 1962-63 European Cup Winners’ Cup

There it is again, Tottenham are the first British team to win a major European trophy. A surprise for Genz readers, they thrashed Atletico Madrid 5-1 in Rotterdam to claim the trophy. Their key players included Jimmy Greaves (2 goals), John White, and Terry Dyson.

Their legendary manager, Bill Nicholson, is at play again, making the team more tactically sound by opting for an attacking play.

This was a major milestone for the British football clubs as they proved that British clubs could compete against European excellence in football

  • 1983-84 UEFA Cup Win

The final of this was with Anderlecht, they defeated the Belgian team on penalties with (2-2 score on the aggregate. Even though a two-legged final, the second leg was played at White Hart Lane, which was the home ground for Tottenham at that time.

Glenn Hoddle, Osvaldo Ardiles, and Steve Archibald were the key players, while Goalkeeper Tony Parks made the decisive save in the shootout, becoming a cult hero.

This was a hammer on to a legacy Tottenham was trying to build in Europe, and a time when their fans would often banter Arsenal for lack of trophies instead.

Surprising right! Nein

  • 1990-91 (FA CUP) 8th Time champions

This was the 8th time they have won the FA Cup, yes, you heard that right, for the 8th time. It is memorable considering that this is the last time they have won the FA Cup and till 2025 they have failed to win again.

Jokes aside, this was also a time when Tottenham came from behind.

Des Walker scored an own goal in extra time, and Spurs completed a comeback. Paul Gascoigne was electric in the semifinal against Arsenal, scoring a legendary free-kick, although he got injured early in the final.

Winning the 8th FA Cup during the 90s was a historical feat at that time, but this has been overshadowed by their arch rivals, Arsenal.

  • 1971-72 UEFA Cup (inaugural winners)

Winners and that too inaugural, You see Tottenham was something else back in the days, the cool guys era when they were bashing in records. This win was special because it was the inaugural of the competition.

Thrashing Wolverhampton Wanderers (3–2 on aggregate), Spurs were the first to lift the trophy. Martin Chivers scored twice in the first leg; Pat Jennings was a rock in goal.

One more thing this win did for the Spurs was to make its profile more strong in Europe.

So, this is it, the actual moment when Tottenham Spurs won a trophy and for a reason, the history behind this beautiful club is deep, keeping all the banter aside they have been in champions league final in 2019, all the investment worked Tottenham would still be running for other major trophies to this date.

With a recent win over Manchester United in the Europa League final Tottenham has again secured the status as one of the elites in world football.
