Football player Robinho to serve rape sentence in Brazil, court rules

A Brazilian court has upheld an Italian court's decision to convict former Milan and Brazil striker Robinho of rape, affirming his nine-year prison sentence. The trial in Brazil's superior court of justice ruled in favour of validating Italy's decision, which found Robinho and five others guilty of gang rape in 2013. Despite Robinho denying the charges, Italy's supreme court confirmed the conviction in 2022. As Brazil doesn't typically extradite its citizens, Italy requested that Robinho serve his sentence in Brazil, where he resides. Robinho's attorney stated that he would surrender to authorities upon official notification of the decision. While the Brazilian court didn't revisit the rape conviction, Robinho expressed hope for a review of the case's merits.

Real Madrid Targets Leny Yoro

Real Madrid faces uncertainty over the contracts of Nacho Fernandez and the fitness of David Alaba, who is recovering from an ACL injury. Reports from Fabrizio Romano suggest Real Madrid is intensifying scouting efforts in France, focusing on promising prospect Leny Yoro. Real Madrid sees Yoro as a potential replacement in defence and faces competition from PSG for his signature. Yoro, at just 18, has impressed with his ball skills and interceptions but lacks in progressive passing. Real Madrid's decision to sign him remains uncertain, but the need for a centre-back transition is pressing.

Barcelona has left the Door Open for the young defender

Barcelona has left the door open for the potential return of 24-year-old former defender Oscar Mingueza, who currently plays for Celta Vigo. Mingueza, once touted as a promising talent from La Masia, joined Celta in 2022 and has since become a key player in their defense. Despite Barcelona not ruling out his return, Mingueza's current contract runs until 2026, though with Celta battling relegation, his departure could be imminent. Several European clubs are interested in him, but Barcelona's reserved rights to a future sale could make his acquisition cheaper. While not among Barcelona's top targets, Mingueza's versatility and composure make him an appealing option for their defense, although a free transfer seems unlikely at this stage.
